Every plan begins with an estimate.

Enter the MAP® math score from your child’s latest report. Helix uses it to choose where practice begins across the main areas of math, such as Fractions & Rational Numbers and Data & Statistics.

A score describes overall performance. It was not designed to say which individual skills are already solid, so Helix treats the starting point as an estimate, and the first sessions check it against your child’s answers.

No score yet, or want more detail before practice begins? The 30–40 minute Helix diagnostic is included, and progress is saved between sittings. Its report gives a Helix Growth Score, results in four reporting areas (Numbers, Algebra, Geometry and Data) and a grade-by-grade skill map. Practice then works in the nine areas.

The Helix Growth Score is a Helix result. It is not a MAP RIT® score and should not be treated as numerically equivalent to one.

Why an earlier fraction skill matters later.

Dividing a fraction by a fraction is usually taught in grade 6. It rests on ideas from grades 4 and 5: multiplying a fraction, splitting one into equal parts, and asking how many parts fit. The Helix Learning Graph connects skills like these, so practice can follow an idea back to where it starts.

When a step isn’t solid yet, practice can bring in the earlier skill it depends on, instead of repeating the same kind of problem.

The screens in this step and the next are a preview of the new Helix Learning Experience, shown with a sample student. It is not yet available to every family: families who sign up today start with the current Helix student and parent dashboards.

Your child’s Practice Set is a small group of skills, often from several areas at once. Each session mixes these skills with a little review, and new material when your child is ready. A session takes about 10–20 minutes.

Every answer is checked as soon as it’s submitted. A wrong answer gets another try. When your child chooses “See answer” after two tries, or skips a problem, Helix shows the answer with a step-by-step explanation of why it works.

Stuck before that? Hint gives a nudge from the problem itself, and your child can ask Ori, Helix’s AI math coach. Ori asks a focused question or offers a useful hint toward a next step. It does not give the answer.

What changes the plan

As Helix learns more from your child’s work, it adjusts which skills need attention.

Secure

When your child demonstrates a solid understanding of a skill, Helix can make room for what comes next. It also returns to earlier skills over time to check that understanding holds.

Starting estimate confirmed

A skill the starting estimate counted as solid gets checked in practice, and is confirmed when the work agrees.

Needs review

When a review shows a skill needs more practice, it gets more practice.
